Recap 2018-19

DCU Sea Lions / Vikings (the two teams were paired for the 2018-19 season) won the Irish Underwater Hockey League in 2018-19. They went 3-1 in their first tournament, their sole loss coming 2-0 to Dublin Otters, who led after Round 1. The Second tournament saw DCU / Vikings gain revenge over Otters with a 2-1 win as the two teams were evenly matched after Round 2. In Round 3 DCU / Vikings and Otters drew 0-0 as DCU held a slight two point advantage over their Dublin rivals going into the last Round. When Otters could not put up a team for Round 4, the title was a formality for DCU / Vikings as they lost to Cork / UL and defeated UCD Krakens to finish on 34 points, 5 ahead of Dublin Otters. Recap

Played over four Rounds of 10 matches per round, the Irish Underwater Hockey League (IUWHL) in 2018-19 was won by DCU / Vikings who finished with 34 Points from 14 matches. They were gifted the title on the last day after nearest challengers, Dublin UWH, also known as “Otters” failed to turn up for the Final Round, as did Belfast, also known as Queen’s University Belfast. DCU, the Dublin City University, known as the Sea Lions, partnered with Vikings for the IUWHL 2018-19 season. Cork, paired with UL (University of Limerick) for the season finished in 3rd on 17 points, one ahead of UCD (University College Dublin Krakens). Queen’s University / Belfast finished without a point.

About Underwater Hockey

Underwater Hockey, as its name suggests, is a team sport where players push a puck along the bottom of a pool with the goal of scoring at their opposing teams end. Players wear snorkel gear and come up for air at timed intervals. Matches last 10 minutes. The Irish Underwater Hockey League (IUWHL) is affiliated with Comhairle Fo Thuinn (Diving Ireland).
